my buddy's 07 r1200r needed a new headlight so i swapped in a solid can-bus friendly LED. popped open the housing and found the harness wires were rock hard like plastic. seen this before so not shocked.
couldn't find a replacement harness on the e-Fich, so i'll check with a couple dealers next. if it's a dead end, i'll just rebuild the old one. if anyone knows for sure these harnesses aren't available anymore, let me know so i can stop wasting time searching.

got a 2012 R1200R and i might need to replace my headlight soon too because of a crack i got from a mini crash 2 weeks ago. been putting it off. so thanks for posting this. i will watch this thread so i can piggyback on the info you will get. 💪🏻

but as for you, is the plastic hard insulation due to heat or was it like that material actually?

heat and age its usually rubbery but over time it gets hard and brittle which is often fine until you start poking at it

Yeah, not surprised the wiring's turning to plastic on an '07. bmw's older harnesses don't age well. If the dealers come up empty, rebuilding it is probably the way to go. Might be a pain, but at least you'll know it's solid

Yeah that's totally normal on older bikes since the wire jackets tend to get really brittle. Do check with Beemer Boneyard or any local salvage shop. If not you might have to rebuild.

Yeah, looks like you should probably just start figuring out how to fix up that old wiring harness.
Don't get your hopes too high about finding a brand new one easily, even though a dealer might pull a rabbit out of a hat. Fixing the old one is pretty normal for bikes this age and usually works out fine

yep, can't say 100%, but that specific headlight harness for an '07? Might be tough to find new. I agree with other people commenting here, rebuilding's probably gonna be your best bet

The R1200R headlight harness can get pretty brittle as it ages. BMW doesn't sell it on its own in the parts catalog, but the LED auxiliary headlight harness (Part No. 61 12 8 548 710) from 2015 to 2019 might fit. If that doesn't work out, you could always rebuild the old harness with the right connectors.
