There was a time my 2017 R1200 stalled on a long trip, I think about 3 days, I had gone about 15 miles already and it took a while for me to get it to start but it still wasn't running at full potential. I sought help and found out the control valve was faulty, so if anyone out there encounters a similar problem, it could be a good place to start

as a new comer to the r1200 this is a good info to have. should i change it before it causes problems or leave it as it is?

This is true. Control valve issues are a little sneaky. @bimmerboy1 I think depending on the damage, and if there is a leakage or not, you might need to replace the control valve. Don't leave it as it is. Seek help too.

Oh getting stuck is no fun! I have a question though, when it stalled and then wasn't running at full power, did you notice any other weird symptoms?

Thanks for sharing, that's a good heads up, control valve issues can definitely cause hard starts and loss of power, especially after heat soak or long rides, very easy to overlook by the way

Good tip! Control valve issues can definitely cause stalling and poor performance. If anyone's R1200 stalls or struggles to run right after a bit of riding, checking the control valve early could save a lot of hassle. Did you have to replace the valve, or was it fixable?

Was there any whining from the fuel tank before it stalled? That can point to a struggling fuel pump. Any weird smells?
