Figuring out the right seat height for the R and RS bikes is always a bit of a pain for some people. But don't worry, guys. I've researched it here and there, and here's the overall comparison.

To know which seat you've got is to see how deep the dip is at the front. And nope, you can't just adjust the height.

Here's the lowdown on the different seats that fit R1200R LC and R1200RS LC (from 2015 onwards):
  • Super Sporty Seat: This one's high and skinny, which is good if you wanna lean into your riding. It's an extra you can buy for both of the bike models. Height: 33.1" / Seated-arc length: 73.8".
  • High Seat: This one comes standard on the RS and you can get it for the R. Height: 31.1"/ Seated-arc length: 32.3" / Seated-arc length: 72.2".
  • Regular Seat: This is the normal one you get on the R, but you can also put it on the RS. Height: 70.1".
  • Short Seat: This is an extra you can buy for both if you need something lower. Height: 29.9" / Seated-arc length: 67.7".

Just so you know, the "High Seat" is now the standard one for the newer 1250 model, just like it always was on the RS.

If you're buying a new bike, it's better to get the comfy passenger seat as an extra. It doesn't cost more when you order it like that, and it makes the person riding on the back way happier with more cushion and legroom. Plus, it still looks pretty good on the bike, especially if you've got a luggage rack on the back.

Interesting info! Is any of the seat dimensions you listed for the R models similar to the low and high settings on the GS? I got a 2018 BMW R1200GS, and I'm curious if they're comparable in terms of height and that seated arc length you mentioned.

I'm 5'10 and went with the regular seat for my R1200R. I tried the low seat, but my knees got cramped on long rides. The passenger comfort seat is a good choice too if you have someone riding with you. Great info!

@RealLifePoirot This is exactly the kind of info people need. That dip description is a great way to ID the seats. just to confirm, the seated-arc length is the measurement around the seat, affecting leg reach, right?

Great read! Thanks for the tips. Will make husband read through this for when he decides to get a new bike! I need to be comfy on the passenger seat!
