Frustrating design choices for rubber hoses

Been dealing with a small crack on the left hose (it's causing around 2-3 drops of oil to seep weekly). Replacing it costs over $90 since the pipe and hose are sold as one unit . Wondering if cutting the crimped fitting and swapping in a standard clamp would work. Advice is welcome!

Appreciate the input! If BMW swapped to standard clamps might be worth exploring that option further. Did the replacement hold up well over time without leaks?

if you really don't want to replace them and want to try a clamp, just make sure the hose isn't hardened or cracked beyond just the fitting area

Yes, will check the hose's condition before going the clamp route. If it's not too far gone, a clamp might save me from shelling out for a whole new unit. I just hope it's not already on its last leg!

Or you could try cutting the crimped fitting and using a standard hose clamp as a temporary fix, but it might not hold up longterm under pressure and heat. For a reliable solution, replacing the full hose-and-pipe unit is safest, even if its pricier, since it ensures proper sealing and avoids potential leaks that could worsen over time.

Thanks for replying to my old post. Your response outlines the exact dilemma I faced in the spring, which is whether to opt for a cheap temporary fix or an expensive long-term solution. For those who revisit this thread, after inspecting the hose as suggested, I found it was hard and brittle near the fitting. I decided not to use a clamp repair due to concerns it would fail on a long trip, so I ordered the official replacement part. It was expensive for its function but has not leaked all summer.
