Buying secondhand: 2009 BMW R1200GS or 2013 BMW R1200RT?

Went to a secondhand dealership today and i was wondering if its better to get the 2013 vs the 2009, make and model is on the title. Generally what the reason why i would choose an older model? I know that the RT is the top of the line and the new model is of course better probably fewer miles but i will save $2000 if the GS has not much difference. Is there like a specific? Do i have to get GS if i'm going off road?

My friend owns an RT and honestly I'm thinking about getting one too lol. Why? well, maybe it'll be a better bike for me. I usually have short distance commuting during the week and longer rides on the weekends around my city on paved roads
