BMW has updated the maintenance schedule and shaft warranty for all liquid cooled K5X Boxer models 2023 and older. In the US (including Puerto Rico), drive shafts will now be covered under warranty for replacement every 36,000miles or for ANY defect regardless of mileage.

This change doesnt apply to the R1300 models, where shaft replacement is required at 80,000km at the owner's expense, as it was clearly listed in the maintenance plan from the start. BMW is covering retroactive shaft replacements for the R1200 and R1250 models due to unexpected maintenance changes, but not for MY24+ models. Also, BMW emphasizes using a specific tool for removing rusted shafts to avoid damaging rear drive bearings, so never use makeshift tools.

Hope this helps.

YES! This is HUGE news for all the K5X Boxer riders out there! 36K miles or ANY defect covered? That's awesome peace of mind, especially with these shafts.
Props to BMW for stepping up and doing the right thing with the retroactive replacements for the R1200/1250 crew.
Just remember that special tool warning, nobody wants to trash those rear drive bearings! Ride safe, folks!

They're living up to their standards.

So, everyone who bought a 1300 knew this? I always thought shaft drives lasted forever, guess I was wrong, just like my first marriage.
